LOW PIT AND REDUCED HEADROOM LIFTS

ikonic Lifts offer a range of lift solutions for low pit and reduced headroom. These solutions comply with the:

  • Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC for Platforms and Hybrid cabin Lifts which aesthetically look and perform like a conventional passenger lifts but have a regulated maximum contract speed of 0-15m/s, and widely used as an alternative to a conventional passenger lift being ideally suited to low rise – low usage applications.
  • EN 81-20/50 for new lifts and EN81-21 for replacement lifts in existing lift shafts. These lifts have a range of drive systems and a normal contract speed of 1 m/s. However, where a restricted pit depth or headroom is present a derogation order is required prior to the installation of a lift.

LOW PIT LIFTS, PIT LESS LIFTS & REDUCED HEADROOM PLATFORM LIFTS

Low pit or low headroom platform and Hybrid Cabin Lifts are available from iKONIC lifts to overcome many building restrictions. Regardless of whether it’s a residential or commercial lift you’re looking for, it’s designed for your purpose. The proven solutions we offer will demonstrate how we have lift packages and lift designs that are tailored to meet your needs.

IKONIC’s low pit platform and hybrid cabin lifts are compliant with the machinery directive. They can be designed to look and feel like conventional lifts, equipped with the latest technologies and drive systems. We offer fire-rated and sliding doors, and we can include one-touch controls if you choose a fully enclosed lift cabin. It still allows for a very low pit depth and a very small headroom.

Among the applications for low pit lifts are retail stores, offices, schools, public places, and residential properties with limited space. With iKONIC low pit Platform and Hybrid Cabin Lifts, pits depths are typically 50-100mm alternatively, a small ramp can be used to eliminate pit requirements completely. Depending on the specification, we can supply machinery directive platform lifts with a pit or without a pit.

PASSENGER LOW PIT LIFTS & REDUCED HEADROOM

A passenger lift with reduced headroom or a low reduced pit can be installed in existing buildings, and where a lift shaft has already been constructed. Many of our passenger lift solutions are custom designed for the building or lift shaft and comply with EN81-21.

Low headroom and pit applications that fall outside EN81-20 will need preliminary approval via a Derogation Order, which has to be formally requested and reviewed on a case-by-case basis by The Office for Product Safety Standards (OPSS).

Being appropriately accredited under Schedule 18 of the Lifts Regulations, ikonic Lifts is able to perform an initial consultation and present an application to OPSS for consideration and approval. Afterwards, we are able to design, manufacture, install, test, and approve the product. This has been necessary in past projects because of drains, underground tunnels, low roofs in listed buildings, planning restrictions, or occupying space above or below the lift, among many others.

EN81-21 Passenger Lifts

UK passenger lifts must comply with the lift directive’s essential health and safety requirements. Achieved by complying with EN81-20/50. In this section, shaft dimensions are defined, primarily referring to the areas of the lift shaft where a crushing hazard could exist. When shallow pits and low headroom issues prevent these dimensions from being met, challenges arise. Which here at iKONIC we have proven solutions for.

Utilise iKONIC Lifts

iKONIC’s low pit lifts are used as a last resort after all practical options for the creation of a pit have been explored and technically not possible due to planning restrictions or physical structural limitations within the existing building envelope.

In such situations where vertical access is required within a building pit less lifts are a credible choice for heritage buildings, schools, colleges, private homes and retailers alike.

Through a range of electro-mechanical solutions, Ikonic Lifts can mitigate the risks associated with low headroom and pits with the implementation of additional electro-mechanical technology and processes.

Needless to say the installation of a reduced pit depth or headroom passenger lift has to be undertaken by suitably accredited lift company to Schedule 18 of The Lift Regulations. Following a consultation period and successful Derogation application to the OPSS at which point the lift can be designed, manufactured and installed, culminating in a design examination test, normally undertaken by the lift installers notified body.
