ROBUST ACCESSIBILITY SOLUTION
FOR ART DECO GRADE II LISTED BUILDING
OUR CLIENT THE REGAL THEATRE

iKONICs team was excited to receive an enquiry from The Regal Theatre in Tenbury Wells. An amazing art deco Grade II listed building which first opened its curtains in 1937 and was used as a cinema until 1966.
Later the Parish Council purchased the cinema in 1970 on behalf of the community and carried out works to turn the building into a theatre and reopened two years later and has remained a theatre to this day serving the community.
The lower levels of the art deco auditorium recently suffered flooding and significant damage along with dealing with the recent coronavirus outbreak.
The Regal team have reprogrammed live events for next year and are planning how they can re-open in a safe way later in 2021
iKONIC CHALLENGE
The theatre contracted us via our website regarding an accessibility solution and requested we carry out a survey to see if it was feasible to install a wheelchair lift on a small staircase to provide disabled access to the theatre.
Due to a recent flood the theatre has being refurbished to repair the damage caused by the flood.
On first look Paul instantly identified a challenge to overcome with regards to the installation of the track due to the historic walls being rather uneven and not level.
iKONIC SOLUTION
iKONIC wanted to provide a robust solution that would serve the long-standing building for many years to come.
The ideal solution for the regal was our iKONIC German engineered Hiro 350 Straight Inclined Platform Lift. Due to the angles of the art deco building and, the walls on the bottom of the landing area. This inclined lift allowed for access on three sides giving easier access for wheelchair users.
With our team’s knowledge we were also able to increase and upgrade the carrying capacity to 300kg which gives more scope for users.
To overcome the heritage buildings uneven walls, we opted to post mount the incline track to provide the best result and smooth safe running of the platform lift.
iKONIC RESULT
With the lift installation completed and final testing and safety checks, iKONIC handed over the new step lift to the client on time for the building’s completion.
The lift has now given easy access to the main theatre for all to enjoy for many years to come. iKONIC are now looking forward to the next project with the client.
