CASE STUDY: Market Square - Falmouth
Market Square - Falmouth
Passenger Lift - Scenic
HIRO 620 Prestige
The lift was a key element, not just to the compliance of this flat development but to its aesthetic appeal. Our lift needed to impress as well as be functional and IKONIC Lifts was uniquely placed to provide the solution to fit these requirements
Property Development company Falmouth One Ltd asked IKONIC Lifts to supply and install a statement scenic, glass lift to sit externally on their flat re-development - Market Square - overlooking the sea in Falmouth, Cornwall.
Falmouth One limited and Falmouth Two limited is a property development company based out of London with a High- end property portfolio, including a recently redeveloped block of flats- Market Square - in Falmouth, Cornwall. The flats were converted from a traditional retail space in to high quality residential flats with sea views, which required a fully compliant external lift to service the floors of the building.
Falmouth One Limited had re-developed Market Square to the highest standards and needed a lift that not only reflected the level of style and quality used throughout the flat development , but also added a new dimension to the building itself as an external focal point. The product needed to be fully compliant and certified and operate within a glass shaft, enabling all passengers to see out of the lift to the sea view beyond.
THE CHALLENGE - Pit Flood
The Quayside in Falmouth is prone to flooding and so flooding of the pit of the lift was a very real possibility and an event that needed to be anticipated when designing the lift.
THE CHALLENGE - Pit Depth
The lift was only 20 feet from the sea wall and so the pit depth available was minimal.
THE CHALLENGE - Corrosion
This outdoor lift was situated very close to the sea and subject to the elements with the risk of corrosion from rain, salt water and sea air.
OUR SOLUTION - The Lift
The Lift - HIRO 620 Prestige Scenic Passenger Lift
OUR SOLUTION - Pit Depth
IKONIC Lifts applied and were granted a derogation order for the lift. By utilising our bespoke HIRO model and our artificial pit prop technology, we were able to create an artificial pit area to guarantee safety for the engineers.
OUR SOLUTION - Corrosion
Special finishes were applied to all metal used on the lift and the lift shaft. This coating protected the metal against the corrosive effects of the rain, salt water and sea air.
OUR SOLUTION - Pit Flood
We installed a moisture sensor feature which is able to detect if the pit fills with water and enables the lift to travel to a refuge point in the middle of the lift shaft.
OUR SOLUTION - Extra Features
Because we always like to go above and beyond at IKONIC Lifts we also installed a external canopy to the outdoor solution which could protect people from the elements when entering and exiting the lift.
The result of the project was a beautiful and sophisticated lift, overlooking Falmouth but protected from all the elements which could impact its efficiency and aesthetic appeal and adding architectural interest to the quay side.
